Have you ever wanted to know what it's like to play roller derby but not 100% sure about it? Now is your chance to find out if you're ready to take the plunge! NHRD, the state's oldest and largest women's roller derby league is hosting two boot camps this fall to give women 21+ a taste of derby!
The Boot Camp will provide basic skills training to promote a better understanding of derby and give you a peek at what you'll ultimately be signing up for. While it is in potential skaters' best interest to attend the boot camp, it will not affect their ability to register for Freshmeat Training in November and December.
What you'll need:
- Helmet
- Knee and Elbow Pads
- Wristguards
- Molded Mouthguard (make sure you boil and form it BEFORE the Boot Camp!)
- Quad Skates
- A copy of your insurance card (you can't skate without this!)
Need gear? No worries, we have skater donated loaner gear available. If you wish to purchase new gear you can visit any of these local shops: The Bruised Boutique in Nashua, NH; Spank Alley Skate & Board SHop in Concord, NH; or Turn Two Skate Shop in Portland, ME.
What happens after the boot camps? Freshmeat Training teaches everyone the skills they need to be a skater on NHRD. There will be a series of assessments, and those that pass will start the 2013 season as a skater with the league! Those who do not make the cut will be given the opportunity to stay with the league as an non skating official (NSO) or volunteer.
