Area Junior Roller Derby Leagues

Both area Junior Roller Derby leagues function as their own leagues and are not associated with NHRD, however, many of our juniors skaters have adult league parents so we thought we’d share their information!

The New England Skate Riots (NESR) are the only New England-wide junior roller derby team. They are JRDA affiliated (Junior Roller Derby Association), gender-inclusive team, for players ages 10 to 18 at all skill levels. NESR is a 100% volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Skate Riots’ mission is to provide a fun, safe, and supportive environment for young athletes to play the team sport of roller derby and connect with an inclusive community.

The Skate Riots began in 2018, but officially incorporated in 2021 with an all new group of parents and board members to provide opportunities for youth to skate while many other New England teams had not yet returned due to Covid. They are now a thriving group of around 25 players and growing. They practice twice a week (Sunday mornings in Saugus, MA and Tuesday evenings in Tyngsboro, MA).

Monadnock Roller Derby’s Junior Team, The Mad Misfits, is for skaters of any gender, ages 7-17 located in Antrim, NH. Junior roller derby doesn’t start out with hitting like the adults, only blocking by position, but with all the fun, fitness, teamwork, confidence, and joy that roller derby is all about. We compete with other junior teams in New England and play by Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA) rules. Juniors work through L1, L2, and L3 skills.
